Uganda has some very special and spectacular national parks, including Bwindi Impenetrable (Mountain Gorillas), Kibale Forest (Chimpanzees) and the great savannah parks as Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth and Kidepo Valley.
The "Big Five" animals of Africa can also be found in Uganda: the lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros and elephant. Although rhinos are only present in Ziwa Sanctuary. A significant population of other wild animals, reptiles and birds can be found in the national parks and game reserves in the country. The number of bird species is over 1000!
Geography of Uganda
The country is located on the East African plateau, averaging about 1,100 metres (3,609 ft) above sea level, and this slopes very steadily downwards to the Sudanese Plain to the north. Uganda lies almost completely within the Nile basin. The Victoria Nile drains from the lake into Lake Kyoga and thence into Lake Albert on the Congolese border. It then runs northwards into Sudan.
