Wildlife watching
East Africa is the best place in the world to watch wildlife. Large animals are more abundant, diverse and visible than anywhere else in the world. East Africa is also one of the best places in the world for birdwatching. It's not unusual for birdwatchers to see 500 or more species in one trip.

There are more then 100 mammal species in East Africa: Elephants, Rhinos, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Hyenas, Monkeys, Mountain Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Zebras, Warthogs, Bushpigs, Giant Forest Hogs, Hippos and more then 40 antelope species, such as Kudus, Topis, Waterbucks, Hartebeests, Uganda Kobs, Oribis, Bushbucks, Elands, Impalas, Roan Antelopes, Gazelles and Wildebeests. Others species include Nile Crocodiles, Nile Monitors, other lizards and snakes. There are over a thousand bird species, which makes East Africa a birder's paradise.

Going on Safari

Game drives

Game drives are the most common way to see the wildlife. In the safety of your vehicle you can observe the animals in their natural habitat. Game drives can be done at any time of the day, but the best time to see the wildlife is early morning or late afternoon. In some places, it's also possible to do night drives, which is quite an experience.

For game drives it is important to use custom built safari vehicles, with aroof that completely opens, to provide a 360 degrees view.

Boat trips

Boat trips are also very prolific. This gives you a chance to get close to large water animals such as Crocs and Hippos and also the large mammals coming for a drink or a plunge. On boat trips, you also get a chance to approach water birds closely enough to photograph them. East Africa offers some of the best boat trips in the world to see the wildlife:
Victoria Nile in Murchison Falls NP (Uganda)
Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth NP (Uganda)
Rufiji River in Selous (Tanzania)

Walking safaris

It's also possible to see the wildlife on foot, accompanied by a ranger. This gives a total different point of view. In some national parks it is possible to make walking safaris, accompanied by a ranger. To explore the jungles or the mountains, it is the only way.

Gorilla and chimptracking

Uganda and Rwanda (and Congo) are home to the endangered mountain gorilla. Chimpanzees can be found in Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. Tracking chimpanzees and gorillas through the forests of East Africa are among the worlds greatest wildlife experiences. Accompanied by a ranger it is possible to track both species.
